Hudson RPO have been onsite at PayPoint since 2014 and are an integral part of the HR team. Lead recruiter Carol Jager reveals how the team marked World Environment Day by volunteering in local woodlands.
CVs and job descriptions were put on hold for the morning as we made our way into the woods for a sunny morning helping in the local community. As part of World Environment Day, as well as Volunteers Week, the HR team at PayPoint enjoyed a day of volunteering in local woods close to our Welwyn Garden City office.
To begin, we helped clear invasive variegated yellow archangel creeper. Wow, that really rolls off the tongue! Although, maybe not quite as quickly as the pace at which it grows around here.
This overgrowth had been taking over a particular area of the woods. It needed to be removed so other vegetation can thrive.
We worked alongside Sherrardspark wood wardens, also volunteers, who partner with the local council on projects in the woods.
The wardens provided us with tools: picks to get the roots of the creepers out, goggles, hard hats, gloves, and clippers.
In addition to tackling the overgrowth, we also made time to support local wildlife. The volunteers helped weave a wooden hedge to encourage birds to nest.
We also built a place for hedgehogs to settle and prevent deer from walking near the road.
Finally, to celebrate and enjoy each other’s company, we finished the day with a picnic in the woods.
