Working with a Recruitment Agency in Singapore Can Cut Costs

recruitment agency in singapore

With a long standing presence in the Asia Pacific market, we have observed significant diversity in recruitment strategies across the region. We are seeing a move away from models where recruitment forms a fundamental part of the HR Business Partner role to more centralised recruitment models (in house or outsourced). Continue reading to discover why many companies turn to Hudson RPO as their trusted recruitment agency in Singapore and Southeast Asia for recruitment process outsourcing solutions.

Drivers for change typically include the need to reduce recruitment costs, increase access to quality talent and enhance the efficiency and rigour around bringing people into the organisation. With these new models, HR Business partners remain in control of the hiring decisions but free themselves of the recruitment administration. This enables HR to spend more time in strategic HR related activities.

Faster Time-to-Fill, Lower Cost-Per-Hire

When it comes to recruitment, many organisations spend a significant amount on direct costs such as agency usage, online job boards and also investments in underutilised recruitment technology. An RPO solution adds rigour to the recruitment process to cut down on direct costs.

The more we find that clients rely on reactive measures such as those mentioned above, the greater the impact of indirect costs on company performance. Such indirect costs include: poor quality hires, lengthy vacancy periods and high turnover.

Often overlooked is the work our RPO implementation and Employer Branding teams complete on increasing the usage of employee referrals. There are countless pages of research suggesting that referrals provide one of the best sourcing channels to attract passive candidates. Our RPO solutions have decreased direct hiring costs through this often underutilised source.

An RPO solution will decrease your company's Cost Per Hire and Time-To-Fill, allowing hiring managers and HR executives to focus on high priority responsibilities and specific critical roles in the hiring process. We've seen this reduce from 30% to 95% of the administrative tasks associated with bringing individuals into a workforce.

Recruitment Hubs for Asia Recruitment

One benefit of an RPO solution that is particularly useful for Asia recruitment needs is the ability to create recruitment hubs. Heads of Recruiting (often in Singapore) who are responsible for hiring in other Asian countries (China, Malaysia, Philippines, Thailand, Indonesia, Vietnam) find it easier to leverage one provider out of a hub location rather than multiple, unrelated vendors across multiple countries.

An RPO provider is uniquely positioned to build an Asia recruitment hub to handle hiring in China, Singapore and other Southeast Asian markets. Rather than hiring multiple recruiters in different Asian countries to perform sourcing and interviewing on site, an RPO solution can build one recruitment hub in a larger corporate office location to serve the whole region. These hubs streamline costs, encourage best practice sharing, build a stronger employer brand and serve to build larger talent pipelines for ongoing hiring needs.

When creating a hub, it’s important that the RPO company you choose understands the cultures of all local markets involved. When hiring employees across Asia, the recruiter must have a keen cultural understanding of each market to devise an advanced sourcing strategy to be effective in those local markets. This includes using the best regional jobs boards and tapping into often unknown but good "second tier" university feeder programs.

How to Shop RPO Companies

Have you made the decision to pursue a recruitment process outsourcing (RPO) solution for your company? If so, you'll need to shop around for quality RPO companies that might be the right fit for your organization.  Before you make the decision, you need to conduct thorough research so that you can become educated about the providers in the market and develop clear goals for your bottom line. Here are some tips to help you through the process:

Determine Your Recruitment Needs

Figure out your recruitment goals, hiring counts (both at the present time and in the future) and service requirements. How much do you want the RPO firm to take over? Will you be ramping up hiring six months from now? A year? Do you need to fill permanent roles, contract positions or a blend of the two? Know where you currently experience problems in your recruitment process and how your RPO provider can improve those problems.  The more you can come up with a concise picture of your needs, the better you can build a partnership with your RPO firm in the future.

Clearly Identify Your Recruitment Costs

Understanding your current recruiting costs will help accurately determine if an RPO solution is right for you.  How much do you spend on agencies, job boards and contract recruiters?  Cost may not be your biggest concern when considering RPO, but it often comes down to your return on investment when you are deciding whether or not to proceed with a solution.  Without an accurate understanding of your cost to hire, you will not be able to make a sound decision on an RPO company to partner with.

Research RPO Firms

Like all firms, RPO providers have specialties. Seek out a list of potential RPO firms that are experienced in your particular industry. What else differentiates these firms from one another? Particular expertise in role functions? Non-exempt versus exempt employees? Geographic reach? Willingness to work onsite with your team?

After doing some basic research, narrow the list down to three or four potential firms.  During the conversation you’ll want to clearly articulate your goals for both the short term and the long term.  A good RPO company will listen to your needs and formulate a plan of attack based on your goals and objectives. A good RPO company will also be willing to be measured against specific KPIs.

Visit Your Potential Providers

You can learn a lot about a company by visiting its offices. Selecting an RPO provider is a big buying decision, so it’s worth taking the time for site visits to get  a feel for the organization. As you walk around, take note of their behaviors. Does the company match how they described themselves? Do they display a professional attitude and an orderly workplace? Are the recruiters communicating in a professional manner to prospective candidates? How do they interact with hiring managers? If you don't get a good feeling from the company, cross them off your list.

Assess Possible Solutions

A good RPO provider will perform an evaluation on your company and provide solutions to improve your recruiting processes. However, they will need some information about your current processes first.  It may take time to delve into your current metrics and research multiple RPO providers, but the more you know going into an RPO solution, the more you stand to gain.  Take a look at their proposed strategies, technology and sourcing methods. Does their plan align with your company's goals and initiatives?

Choose a Provider

As you've probably realized, no two providers are alike. Each presents different technology, sourcing processes and approaches. Selecting an RPO provider that aligns well with your company's goals will help save you headaches along the way.
