500 Hires per year for Austalia's Largest Health Insurance Provider

In 2007, Medibank, Australia’s publicly funded universal health care system, had limited recruitment, assessment and workforce planning strategies.

CHALLENGE:  

The key challenges facing Medibank included:

  • Decentralized and reactive recruitment process with more than 100 suppliers
  • No existing formula to accurately measure recruitment costs, time-to-fill and quality of hires
  • Staff turnover for less than 12 months service was at 53%

HUDSON RPO SOLUTION:

Hudson RPO implemented a national onsite solution for the company’s corporate, customer service and retail business units. The recruitment solution included all permanent roles up to au$200,000 in salary. Hudson RPO initially placed a team of eight recruitments specialists onsite, which eventually increased to 14 recruitment specialists to meet peak demand. The team created an end-to-end recruitment solution, underpinned by customized technology, covering both internal and external recruitment. 

The team’s main goals were to:

  • Reduce employee turnover
  • Improve candidate quality and effective sourcing
  • Support business restructures
  • Increase the recruitment capability of hiring managers
  • Reduce recruiting costs
  • Enhance Medibank’s employment brand 
  • Deliver strategic recruitment projects

Hudson delivered a number of strategic projects, including:

  • Design and development of a careers website
  • LinkedIn and Facebook careers sites
  • Delivery of hiring manager skills training and supporting toolkit
  • Implementation of an “employee engagement” measure
  • Roll out of a referral program for retail
  • Implementation of online employment contracts
  • Video interviewing
  • Social media sourcing 
  • Development of recruitment diversity strategies 
  • A high-performance study for the Contact Centre

RESULTS:

Feedback from hiring managers and candidates indicated high levels of satisfaction with quality of process and outcomes. Hudson exceeded contractual KPIs and delivered superior business results, with Medibank acknowledging that the “careers at Medibank” solution has made a fundamental difference to its business.
